Artist Bio
I am a saxophonist who also happens to dabble in flutes, clarinets, synthesizers, and sampling. I write my own music, I produce my own music, I produce other people’s music, and I collaborate with local and international artists when possible.
After almost getting a degree in classical saxophone performance, I shifted gears and moved into the world of improvisation while getting a degree in biomedical engineering. Prior to graduating, I learned that I was headed to London, England, for a fellowship to study philosophy and health. A regular at the coffee shop I worked at convinced me to (almost reluctantly) bring my saxophone to London, and I could not thank him more. I ended up connecting with the jazz society at University College London, which helped me rediscover the great importance that jazz and improvisation had in my life.
I earned my degree and moved to El Salvador for a Fulbright fellowship to study healthcare access for internally displaced people who were running from violence. During my time in the country, I was lucky enough to become a part of a local pop-funk band Camelo, where we toured to Guatemala and Mexico City while hosting multiple performances and shows in El Salvador. I also started a jazz quintet, Buxo Don Luis, which was the house band for jazz nights at a local café that I curated in coordination with the café owner. Later on, I paired forces with local DJ and producer Gaby Nieto in forming a duo called NILA, where we performed sax/DJ live shows.
After the pandemic brought me home, I turned inward and started learning how to produce my own music, make my own electronic rhythms, and learn the ins and outs of music production. Little by little, I have grown my own home studio while also cultivating my craft as a woodwind player, primarily focusing on jazz theory with the saxophone.
Music is and always will be a strong part of my life, but I also have a passion for research and public health. I see these sides of my life as complimentary. As such, I have started a PhD to get better at being a researcher so I can become an ethical and reliable co-creator of knowledge in this world.
I currently reside in Bozeman, MT as a graduate student at Montana State University. While I maintain collaborative relationships with artists in Detroit, MI, San Salvador, El Salvador, and Mexico City, Mexico, I am also fostering new connections with local artists and creatives in Montana.
Listen to Walk with me
Walk With Me was released on April 1st, 2022, marking a deeply personal and artistic transition.
This album closes a wonderful period of growth and exploration and opening up into a new personal era. Walk With Me explores various energetic spaces, giving the listener space for exploring emotions transmitted by each track, and hopefully gives the listener space to explore their own feelings and spaces for healing.
